A new, massive awning over the top of two floors of outdoor deck space at the Main & Mill Brewing Co. in Festus should make outdoor dining more comfortable, business owner Denny Foster said.
The awning, measuring 39 feet by 42 feet, was installed July 10-12 with the use of a crane and required the closure of a section of Mill Street next to the establishment at 240 Main St. during the work.
“It will allow for a more permanent setting for entertainment,” Foster said. “It will provide shade for both decks. The seating capacity for the two levels is about 75.”
The awning offers protection not only from the sun, but inclement weather, Foster said.
“It can take a load of snow,” he said. “We had a singer Saturday night and it was raining and it worked great; kept everything dry.”
Foster said customers can expect more enhancements.
“It’s the start of improvements to our back area,” he said.
The family owned brewery and restaurant opened Oct. 12, 2015.
