Crystal City officials have approved plans and building permits for a Five Below store expected to open soon at 151 Twin City Mall.
The store is going into part of the space that used to house a Kmart store.
R.L. Jones Properties, which owns the mall, is renovating the 12,000-square-foot space where the Five Below store is slated to open, said Laura Jones.
“They are working on the inside and the exterior front,” Crystal City building and planning director Robert Sullivan said Feb. 16.
“We’re set to deliver (the renovated space) to them in March,” Jones said. “We understand they want to open it in the spring.”
A Harbor Freight Tools store, 155 Twin City Mall, already occupies about 20,000 square feet of the 100,724-square-foot space where Kmart operated before closing in March 2019.
Five Below website stores sell a variety of items, most priced between $1 and $5. The company, headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa., was founded in 2002 and has nearly 1,200 stores in 40 states, according to the Five Below website.
