Corin Roth and her husband, Christian, recently opened Backbone Home Furnishing in Festus.

Festus has twice the “backbone” it had before.

Corin and Christian Roth of Festus have expanded their business, recently opening a new store called Backbone Home Furnishing at 420 W. Main St. in Festus.

The couple already owns and operates Backbone Home, Decor, Gifts & More at 220 E. Main St. in Festus.

Corin Roth, 31, said she and her husband, who’s 38, always wanted to carry furniture, and with their second store, they can.

“Backbone Home Decor is more for smaller items, more gifts and smaller home decor,” she said. “(Backbone Home Furnishings) has furniture, lighting and also decor items.”

Roth said the second store, which opened in July, offers much more space than first one, as well as its own parking lot.

“This has 3,300 square feet,” she said. “We love the parking lot. Our customers don’t have to fight to get a good parking spot.”

Backbone Home Furnishings carries a variety of furniture, but the Roths can obtain items not currently in stock.

“We just got the Ashley Furniture contract worked out recently,” Corin Roth said. “Our goal is to provide a big variety of furniture brands. Ashley Furniture has a really large selection. We also carry several other vendors we’ve contracted with.

“We have a lot already in stock, but we can also custom order and get it here quickly.”

Roth said she and her staff are happy to help clients find the right pieces for their homes.

“A lot of people know they need furniture, but feel lost,” she said. “We can help them with their price points and different styles.”

Backbone Home Furnishings has four employees, including Corin.

The Roths opened Backbone Home Decor in October 2021.

Corin Roth explained that the name Backbone is a tribute to her father, Shawn Morlan, who broke his back as a young man. Doctors told him he would never work again, but he defied the odds and continued to support his family as a carpenter, she said.

Roth said that like Backbone Home Decor, Backbone Home Furnishings sells many items from vendors who have worked to improve society, such as veteran-owned businesses.

“We are a veteran-owned company and support veterans and first responders,” she said.

As Backbone Home Furnishings gets off the ground, its hours vary, Roth said.

“We’re getting ready to transition to full-time hours,” she said. “Check our social media pages for updates on our hours.”
