Adonis Townsend, 18, of Festus and Joseph Tissi, 31, of De Soto were hurt in a three-vehicle accident that occurred at 4:22 p.m. Tuesday (July 3) at Veterans Boulevard (Hwy. A) and South Mill Street in Festus, says Capt. Don Lassing of the Festus Police Department.
Townsend was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer east on Veterans Boulevard and was attempting to make a left onto Mill Street and struck a 1999 Ford Taurus headed west in the right lane of Veterans Boulevard, Lassing said.
When Townsend attempted to make a left, he had a green light but not a green arrow, Lassing said.
"He did not see the second vehicle coming and by the time he did, it was too late and struck it," Lassing said.
The front of the SUV struck the driver's side of the car, which Tissi was driving, Lassing said.
When the Taurus was struck, it caused the car to strike another vehicle, which had been headed south on Mill and was waiting to turn west on Veterans Boulevard, Lassing said.
Lassing said he didn't know the make and model of the third vehicle.
He said a woman was driving that vehicle, but he didn't have her name.
Lassing said the woman struck her head on the driver's side window but refused medical treatment at the scene.
Townsend and Tissi were taken by ambulance to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Crystal City, Lassing said.
Both their vehicles were severely damaged, he added.
