Imperial home totaled by Monday morning fire that appeared to start on deck

A fire on Monday destroyed a split-level home in the 5100 block of Darrell Drive in Imperial, Rock Community Fire Protection District reports.

Rock Fire got a call about the fire at about 8 a.m.

The grandmother of the person who rents the home was there when the fire broke out and got out unharmed, Rock Fire Marshal Lloyd Montgomery said.

He said the woman heard crackling and saw fire in the rear of the home at the deck and then went to a neighbor’s and called 911.

When firefighters arrived, the home was “well involved” in fire, the report said.

A firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

No one else was injured, according to the report.

It took firefighters about one hour to get the blaze under control.

It looked like the fire started on the deck behind the home, but then spread inside, Montgomery said.

He said Tuesday the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Montgomery said the house appears to be totaled.
