Dogs cornered Barnhart burglar who was carrying knife

A 21-year-old Barnhart man recently was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a home in the 2500 block of Old Hwy. M in the Imperial area, says Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 3:10 a.m. Nov. 29, the man allegedly entered the victim’s home through the front door, causing her dogs to begin barking. The woman went downstairs to investigate and found the man standing in the living room, cornered by her dogs, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The man reportedly had a knife in his hand.

He allegedly told the woman he entered her home because he was cold and was running away from people who were after him, according to the report.

The woman told the man to put down the knife and he complied. Then the victim pushed him outside the door and called 911.

Deputies found and arrested the man a short time later, the report said.

Burglary charges will be sought, Arnhart said.
