Michael Thompson of Hematite sent in this photo of himself, center, with Army combat infantry buddies Robert Marrioti and Butch Klotz in 1969. Thompson graduated from Ritenour High School in 1968 and enlisted three weeks later. He served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. “We were getting ready to go out into the field, and one of the guys said, ‘Let’s get a picture.’ You can see I have the M60 machine gun, and they are wearing machine gun ammo belts – they were ammo bearers for me.”
