Ray Walls

Amy Hagedorn of Barnhart sent in a photo of her father, Raymond “Ray” Walls of Arnold, who served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

“In 1965, at age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army,” she said. “His training in jungle warfare would prove to be invaluable for what he was to face. He experienced some ‘tough times’ as he fought alongside the other young men. One tragic day as they walked through the jungle, he tripped a booby trap which injured him and fatally wounded his best friend walking behind him, who died in his arms. My dad received three Purple Hearts, three Bronze Stars and a Silver Star at the time of his discharge in 1968.”

Mr. Walls, 74, a native of Corning, Ark, has lived in Arnold for about 20 years. He is a strong supporter of the military, those serving now and in the past.
