A V-mail letter from Staff Sgt. Bob Young to his sister, Mrs. Doyle Goodwin, written in June 1945.
Robert “Bob” Young, 94, of De Soto wrote the letter, below left, to his sister in 1945. It reads:
“Dear sis and family,
Received your letter the other day. Was so glad to hear from you and that everyone is OK. I’m getting along fine.
Don’t know when I’ll get home but it shouldn’t be too long. Hope those chickens are big enough to eat when I get back. I don’t get much gum over here and we generally get one pack of cigarettes a day. No, I don’t have enough points to get out. I’m about 18 short.
Well, Sis, this is all I know for now so write when you can.
Love, Bob”
