Herrell’s owner says customers have been understanding during busy time
Like most grocery stores, business has been booming at Herrell’s Market, 1015 Imperial Main St., since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
Because of the increase in business, it sometimes has been difficult to keep high-demand products in stock, said Jeff Spradling of Desloge, one of the owners of the Imperial market.
“The most trying thing has been trying to keep up. We don’t want to disappoint anyone,” he said.
Fortunately, the store’s patrons have been great, Spradling said.
“We appreciate all the loyal customers and everything the community does,” he said. ‘We hope the community is doing well.”
Spradling said the store has about 20 employees, and they’ve worked hard to keep the store running as smoothly as possible during a difficult time.
“I thank my employees who come in despite the risk and serve the community,” he said.
Kenneth Wakefield of Bismarck is the store’s other owner.
About seven years ago Spradling and Wakefield bought the store, which had been in the community for about a century, from Joe and Kathy Herrell, who operated it for nearly five decades.
The store has long been known for its meat, and Spradling and Wakefield continue focusing on that part of the business.
“Mr. Herrell built a good business and we’re trying our best to continue putting out high-quality meat,” Spradling said.
The store will offer some bulk meat specials.
It also recently installed new flooring – vinyl planks that look like wood, Spradling said.
