St. Pius X (KC) leads the Class 3 boys state wrestling standings after the first day at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia with 90 points. The Warriors are last year’s Class 1 state champions but were bumped up two classes because of MSHSAA’s competitive formula for private schools.
Hillsboro, state champions in 2023, and runners-up in 2024, is second with 83.5 points. The Hawks qualified wrestlers in all 14 weight classes, and freshman Carter Pryor (106), junior Carter Wallis (126), senior Jackson Tucker (144), senior Wyatt Hendrix (150) and junior Griffin Morris (285) are in the semifinals on Saturday.
De Soto (14th, 26 points) and Festus (25th, 12.5) have wrestlers competing on the consolation side of the bracket on day two. Sophomore Levi Huck is in the semifinals at 175 for the Dragons. Windsor (28th, 10) senior Luke Patterson is in the semis at 138.
In Class 4, Liberty is gunning for its sixth straight state title and leads after the first day with 90.5 points. Seckman is 10th with 33.5 points, and sophomores Dorrian Clark (113) and Chance Ruble (150) are in the semis. Northwest (16th, 23.5) is represented in the semis by senior Lucas Meier (113). Sophomore Cohenn Stark (41-1) lost his first match of the season at 175 to Hickman sophomore Beau Waldron (29-6) in an 8-4 decision. Stark stayed alive for a medal with a win in his first consolation match.
Fox junior Chandler Price lost his first bout at 157 but is still alive after winning two matches on the backside of the bracket. Price won a 9-8 decision in the second consolation round when he scored on an escape and takedown in the third period.
