Eureka’s boys volleyball team accomplished its mission Tuesday at Seckman.
The Wildcats broke a two-game losing streak with a pair of wins over the Jaguars, taking the games 25-13, 25-23.
“We had lost some tough games last week, both of them coming in three-set matches,” said Eureka coach Carlo Atienza, whose team improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Suburban West Conference play. “We talked about this week being our bounce-back week and a momentum week for us too. We have four games back to back to back to back next week against tough teams. This is a big week for us.”
Lucas Langevin led the charge for Eureka with 11 kills, and Kaivon Tajkarimi added six. Billy Boulay had five kills, and Jacob Tipton served two aces in the victory.
Seckman struggled to return Eureka’s serves, failing to send back 10 serves in the two games.
But the Jaguars did make the second game difficult for the Wildcats after falling behind 8-0. Seckman clawed back to take a 20-17 lead as Liam Dobbins collected eight straight points while serving.
Eureka tied the game at 22, and after losing a point, the Wildcats took the last three points on kills from Tyler King and Langevin as the game ended when the Jaguars returned Langevin’s serve long.
Colin Gielow had three kills and three blocks for Seckman, and Mclean Ohrt had two kills as the Jaguars (4-6-1, 0-2) lost their third straight game.
“We’re trying to figure out if they know how to play or if they have that ability to play hard when they need to,” Seckman coach Tim Zambo said of his team’s attempted comeback in the second game. “We are trying to get them to play hard every single point, so we don’t get in those ruts and down 8-0 because that is hard to come back from when a team has that much momentum.”
