Monroe City will travel to St. Pius X on Friday to play in the Class 2 state semifinals. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday.
St. Pius X activities director Tilden Watson said in a letter to St. Pius parents today (Nov. 25) the decision was made collaboratively between both schools and confirmed with the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
The following is the letter sent by Watson to parents.
The decision to move the Semifinal football game from Saturday to Friday was not made lightly. Monroe City’s Athletic Director reached out to us this morning requesting the change due to the anticipated weather conditions. With a short week because of Thanksgiving and several logistical preparations that needed to be completed in advance, a final decision had to be made today to ensure a smooth and safe event for everyone involved.
If we found ourselves in a similar situation and needed accommodations—as has happened in the past—we would hope and expect that our opponent would show us the same courtesy. As a faith-based Catholic high school, we are called to a higher standard of compassion, cooperation, and mercy. Supporting another school in a moment of need reflects who we are and what we stand for.
This decision was made collaboratively between both schools and confirmed with MSHSAA. Above all, the safety of everyone—our athletes, coaches, families, and fans—remains our highest priority, especially for those who will be traveling. We consistently put the well-being of our student-athletes first, and we extend that same care to others.
Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and continued support.
