Martin, Victor

Victor W. Martin, 96, of Pevely died May 30, 2021, at his home. Mr. Martin was a lifelong dairy farmer and milk hauler and was longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pevely. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served in the Asiatic/Pacific Theatre in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a life member of VFW Post 3777. He was a member and past president of the Dunklin R-5 School District Board of Education and was very active for many years in numerous Jefferson County Agricultural clubs and organizations. He also was an avid horseman. Born July 11, 1924, in Antonia, he was the son of the late Rose (Friedman) and Herman Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife: Erna (Kraus) Martin.

He is survived by three daughters: Pamla (Wayne) Atkins of Nelson, Jewell (Ed) Edwards of Herculaneum and Nelda Martin of Pevely; a son: Steven H. (Pat) Martin of Pevely; a sister: Betty (the late Calvin) Buechting of Pevely; eight grandchildren: Paul (Jessica) Atkins, Henry “Aaron” Atkins, Danora Doe, Katina (Jim) Kraatz, Edwin Edwards, Andrew Martin, Richard (Molly) Martin and Rachel Martin; and six great-grandchildren: Hayden Atkins, Christopher Doe, Michael Doe, Paige Kraatz, Ella Martin and Victor Martin. He was preceded in death by a sister: Helen (the late Vince) Joannes.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at noon on Saturday, June 5, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pevely, officiated by Pastor Bryan Roberts. Burial is in the Antonia Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Pevely.  Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
