Vera Catherine McGougan, 91, of De Soto died May 17, 2020, in De Soto. Mrs. McGougan was a homemaker. A 1947 De Soto High School graduate, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of De Soto and attended the Naomi Women's Sunday School Class at the church. She also was a member of the Golden Age Group, which later became the Senior Adult Ministries. She was a member of the Red Hats Society, the De Soto Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and the Royal Neighbors Fraternal Organization. She loved music, Cardinals baseball and reading.
Born April 1, 1929, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Joseph and Maggie “Emma” (Pierce) Vivrett.
She is survived by her husband: Arch McGougan Jr. of De Soto, whom she married Aug. 10, 1947; as well as two sons: David Wayne (Melinda) McGougan of Eureka and Richard Arch McGougan of De Soto; a brother: Bill (Jeanie) Vivrett of Manchester; three grandchildren: Lorinda (Brian) Krey, Dava McGougan and Leah (David) Poe; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three siblings: Elma (John) Miller, Jack (Wilma) Vivrett; and Bob (Vivian) Vivrett.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday (May 21) at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday (May 22) at First Baptist Church of De Soto, 2000 Grace Way, officiated by the Rev. Gene Smith. Burial will be in De Soto City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
