Susan Ballard, 70, of Crystal City died Oct. 4, 2017, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Ballard was a retired payroll clerk at Doe Run Lead Co. in Herculaneum. Born Jan. 22, 1947, in Herculaneum, she was the daughter of Delmas E. (Lorraine) Becker Sr. of Arnold and the late Freeda Geneva (Moore) Becker.
In addition to her father and stepmother, she is survived by her husband: Joseph K. “Joe” Ballard Sr.; three daughters Freeda (Bobby) Venz of Festus, Tracey Ballard of Festus and Karin I. Ballard of Mehlville; a sister: Laura Faye (Gary) Bourisaw of Ste. Genevieve; a brother: Delmas E. “Bud” (Renie) Becker Jr. of Herculaneum; seven grandchildren: Joshua (Michelle) Venz, Terri (Ryan) Friedmeyer, Jacob Venz, Shae O’Brien, Julia Venz, Mitchel McKenzie and Brandon McKenzie; and one great-grandson: Bodie Friedmeyer.
She was preceded in death by a son: Joseph K. “Jody” Ballard, Jr.; and a brother: James E. Becker.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St.. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the funeral home, with Pastor Kyle Castens officiating. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
