Seth Winkelmann, 18, of Imperial died Jan. 14, 2021, in Imperial. Seth was a senior at Windsor High School, where he was active in wrestling, cross country, and track and field, particularly pole-vaulting. He was enrolled in a fire science program at Jefferson College to pursue his dream of being a firefighter. He was a kind-hearted young man, always putting others before himself. He was friendly and adventurous, with a great sense of humor and a contagious smile. Born Dec. 6, 2002, in Arnold, he was the son of Kimberly (Davis) and Roger Winkelmann Jr. of Imperial.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his twin sister: Sydney Winkelmann of Imperial; two grandmothers: Marie “Judy” Winkelmann of St. Louis and Kathleen Davis of Salem; aunts and uncles Samantha (Scott) Weber of Salem, Christina (Brian) Billington of Arnold and Katie (Doug) Dickmann of Hillsboro; his great-grandmother: Marie Meyerott of St. Louis; and many great-aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by two grandfathers: Roger Winkelmann Sr. and Ferrell “Sam” Davis.
Seth will be forever missed by his family, his friends and the community he touched. He suffered from depression and struggled greatly over this past year, and his family hopes his story might help others who are struggling find the strength to reach out for help. Memorials may be made to the National Suicide Prevention Line or to the GoFundMe page established to raise money for a scholarship in Seth’s name to benefit students going through the fire science program.
