Ruth “Jewel” Stringer, 82, of Pevely died Sept. 29, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Stringer was a member of the Community Church of Jefferson County in Pevely. Born Oct. 14, 1933, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Bessie Mae (Midgett) and George Leonard Brakefield.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Roscoe Stringer.
She is survived by two daughters: Nancy Jackson of Pevely and Gladys (John) Heil of Crystal City; a son: Randy (Robin) Stringer of De Soto; a brother: Clinton Brakefield of Festus; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters: Lilly Davis and Norma “Jean” Morris; two sons: Herschel Leroy Stringer and Roger Dale Stringer; a son-in-law: Jerry Jackson; two sisters: Ruby G. Beers and Golda G. Garrison; and two brothers: Clifford Brakefield and Orville W. (the late Shirley Mae) Brakefield.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3, at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home, 9115 Commercial Blvd, Pevely, followed immediately by funeral services officiated by Pastor Mary Williams. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society or the American Cancer Society. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery in Potosi. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home.
