Ruth E. Pillen, 89, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Grubville, died Jan. 19, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Pillen was a bookkeeper in the trucking industry for over 40 years, more than 20 of those for Luking Trucking. She enjoyed playing Backgammon and Scrabble, her jewelry and loved doting on all her nieces and nephews like a proud second mom. She also loved playing the organ, country music, movies and her German shepherd. She was an accomplished artist, specializing in oil painting. Her savior and church were very important in her life. Born April 5, 1928, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Jefferson Lee and Laura Adeline (Barfield) Sutterfield. She was preceded in death by her husband: Conard Pillen.
She is survived by six nieces and nephews: Lee (Susan) Sutterfield, Sandra L. Winn, Candace (Charles) Krest, Melissa (Tony) Hearst, Laura Mae (Brian) Koch and Linda Sutterfield.
She also was preceded in death by one brother: Rodney Lee Sutterfield Sr.; and one sister-in-law: Margaret Elizabeth Sutterfield.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until time of funeral services at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto, with Brother Wayne Norris officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
