Russell Lee Chapman Sr., 61, of De Soto died Dec. 2, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Chapman worked for the De Soto Police Department, as a code enforcement officer for Jefferson County and as a maintenance supervisor for Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was born April 22, 1955, in De Soto, the son of the late Alvera Agnes (Bressler) and Charles R. Chapman Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Ann (Wilfong) Chapman.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Betty Buchanan of De Soto, and her family; three children: Mary C. (Jim) Daniels of De Soto, Nathan M. “Nate” Chapman of Potosi and Russell (Jessica Wicker) Chapman Jr. of Potosi; nine siblings: Charles R. “Chuck” Chapman Jr. of New York City, Pat Holt of De Soto, William R. “Bill” Chapman of Fenton, Alice Suiter of De Soto, Robert “Bob” Chapman of Arnold, Harold Chapman of Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y., Judith Jackson of De Soto, Charlene Wougamon of Murphysboro, Ill., and Arlene Parton of De Soto; and eight grandchildren: Taylor, Matthew, Maddox, Mathew, Billy, Austin, Maddie and Gavin.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Kevin Mabery; a sister, Mary Northcutt; and a brother, Ronald Chapman.
A funeral service was held Dec. 5 at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Homein De Soto, officiated by the Rev. Gene Moses. Burial was in the Peaceful Ridge Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements were under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
