Robert Lee McKinney, 89, of Hillsboro died Sept. 2, 2020, in Chesterfield. Mr. McKinney graduated from Maplewood-Richmond Heights High School in 1949 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He worked in the Pentagon during the Korean war as a computer operator and later turned that into a career in data processing and sales, eventually owning his own company. He was a member of the Methodist faith, an avid fisherman and loved his football. He was patient, kind, compassionate, supportive, loving and an impeccable dresser. He never met a stranger and always gave to those less fortunate, having a smile and a kind word for everyone, and truly believed in the power of positive thinking. Born July 23, 1931, in Grandin, he was the son of the late Corby and Ivis McKinney.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Jan (Scheltinga) McKinney of Hillsboro; four children: Debera (Donald) McKinney of Carmel, Calif., Vickie (Sam) Hassoun of Ballwin, Michelle (Nick) Bhambri of Chesterfield and Stacey Smoyer of Kansas City; a brother: Michael (Mary) McKinney of Kerrville, Texas; and eight grandchildren: Nicholas, Samantha, Leah, Lauren, Jack, Colin, Brendan and Michael.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Shrader Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Road, in Ballwin. Private burial will take place in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.
