Richard Herman Belz, 82, of Van Alstyne, Texas, formerly of Arnold, died Oct. 13, 2018, in a home hospice in The Woodlands, Texas. Mr. Belz served three years in the U.S. Army. He earned a mechanical engineering degree from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla and after that, he and his wife moved to Arnold, and he worked three years at Monsanto.

Then, he worked for 32 years as a mechanical engineer at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas, retiring in 1999. While working at Texas Instruments, he earned a master’s degree in engineering management from Southern Methodist University. Mr. Belz also was active with his sons in Boy Scouts for several years and was a hospice volunteer. He was a member of Howe United Methodist Church since 1978.

Born Oct. 8, 1936, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Rosella Brown and Herman E. Belz.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years: JoAnn Belz; two sons: Richard Michael Belz of The Woodlands, Texas, and John Benjamin Belz of Houston, Texas; one granddaughter: Brittany; and a stepbrother: Kenny Langer.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, Oct. 20, at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel, 637 W. Van Alstyne Parkway, in Van Alstyne, Texas, officiated by the Rev. Tom Medley. Arrangements are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home and Crematory.
