Glenda Nellie (Huskey) Caldwell, 85, Festus
Glenda Nellie (Huskey) Caldwell, 85, of Festus died April 18, 2023, at Garden View Care Center in Valley Park. Mrs. Caldwell was an active member of De Soto Christian Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, VBS leader and active in the church’s women’s group. She was a member of an a cappella group. She loved spending time with her family, and she enjoyed tending to flowers, being in the yard, painting and working jigsaw puzzles. She also liked her Mustang cars; bluegrass and country music; and lunch at Dairy Queen with her husband. Born Dec. 12, 1937, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Marie (Patterson) and Ernest Huskey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years: Herbert Caldwell.
She is survived by four daughters: Beverly (David) Vreeland of Chesterfield, Patricia (Mike) Stark of Waco, Texas, Colette (Tim) Evans of Kennesaw, Ga., and Nancy (Brent) Darnell of Festus; a son: Brian (Celesta) Caldwell of Frisco, Texas; 12 grandchildren: Katie (Tom) Dickherber, Becky (Sean) Collins, Scott (Carly) Vreeland, Nathan (Raina) Evans, Brent (Meredith) Evans, Emily (Jared) Southern, Blake (Taylor) Darnell, Sadie (Tyler) McGrew, Claire Darnell, Hunter Darnell, Grant Caldwell and John Caldwell; a sister: Alice (John) Robertson of Casper, Wyo.; a brother: Jim (Pam) Huskey of Billings, Mont.; 11 great-grandchildren and three more great-grandchildren on the way; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by four siblings: Lilburn (the late Mary Lou) Huskey, Juanita (the late Homer) Thebeau, Hazel (the late Floyd) Thebeau and Genevieve (Oliver survives) Shoults.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 24, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Ron Folmer of De Soto. Burial will be in Hematite Methodist Cemetery in Festus. Memorials may be made to De Soto Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association of St. Louis.
