Filkins, Roy

Roy Lee Filkins, 87, of De Soto died Jan. 2, 2026, at Mary Queen and Mother Nursing Facility in Shrewsbury. Mr. Filkins served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1960 to 1966. He was a driver for Smith Overall and Aramark. Born Nov. 6, 1938, in De Soto, he was the son of the late Frank Filkins and Hulda Mae (Hardin) Filkins Landrum.

He was preceded in death by his first wife: Betty (Ratliff Filkins) Kamer; and his second wife: Eleanor “Cozy” (Stevens) Filkins.

He is survived by five children: Jamie (Dan) Miles of Affton, Jodi (Paul) Pagano of Affton, Todd (Lisa) Filkins of Oakville, Brian (Amy) Lindbloom of Trafford, Penn., and Leigh (Rob) Teichman of Lafayette, Colo.; eight grandchildren: Garrett, Mitchel, Aaron, Zach, Lexi, Brittany, Ally and Jessica; a great-grandchild: Dustin; a great-grandchild on-the-way; and numerous other family members and friends.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert “Bob” Filkins and Richard “Dickie” Filkins; a sister: Judy (Filkins) Boyer; a grandson: Brian “Buddy”; and his lifelong friend: Carol Caffery.

A memorial gathering is scheduled from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1620 Boyd Street, in De Soto, officiated by the Rev. G. Michael Rose. Inurnment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
