Richard V. Barton, 77, of Barnhart died May 9, 2026, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mr. Barton was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. He spent his career in the medical field, retiring as a sleep technologist. He was a member of VFW 3777 and American Legion 253. Born Jan. 9, 1949, in Quincy, Ill., he was the son of the late Edna Dorothy (Melling) and George Joseph Barton.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Judith Ann (Budrow) Barton.
He is survived by two daughters: Christina Barton of Barnhart and Renee Hessling of Barnhart; two grandsons: Joshua Hessling and Nicholas Hessling; a sister: Lynda (the late Wayne) Smith of Quincy; and three brothers: George (Janet) Barton of Quincy, Larry (the late Linda) Barton of Quincy and Thomas (the late Patricia) Barton of Aurora, Ind.
Services will be private and inurnment will take place in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or as backpacks with school supplies for children of all ages. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
