
Michael Ruben “Mike” Moonier, 71, of Arnold died Aug. 20, 2025. After receiving his M.B.A. from Webster University, he began his career in healthcare at Lutheran Hospital, then Alexian Brothers, where he met his wife, before moving to Mercy Health, where he would retire in 2021 after 40 years. As the executive director of regulatory and accreditation compliance, he oversaw the safety standards of 34 hospitals and outpatient centers across four states. He was passionate about the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, birdwatching (and feeding) and riding his bike on Missouri trails. He also loved piloting small planes and going on road trips with his family. He was an active member of his church and in his children’s lives, serving as school board president at Holy Child, parish councilman and Eucharistic adoration guardian at Immaculate Conception and Boy Scout leader. He loved attending his children’s band concerts, hockey games and musicals. He is remembered for his willingness to share knowledge, from car repairs to building dollhouses to life advice, as well as for his wit and joy for life. Born Sept. 23, 1953, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Juana (Mehner) and Francis Moonier.
He is survived by his wife of more than 42 years: Sandy; six children: Jeremy (Tracy), Jon (Sarah), Carrie (Craig), Matthew (Clara Lee), Mitchell and Natalia; seven grandchildren: Amber, Logan, Brooke, Ally, Lily, Paige and Katie; and two siblings: Jo Ella and Kevin.
A funeral Mass was held Aug. 27 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Imperial. Burial was in Shepherd Hills Cemetery. Memorials may be made to either Wings of Hope or the Brain Tumor Network. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis South County Chapel.
