James E. Skaggs, 85, of De Soto died Sept. 2, 2024, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mr. Skaggs was a forklift driver for St. Louis Refrigeration. Born Oct. 27, 1938, in Bismarck, he was the son of the late Louis and Macie (Lewis) Skaggs.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Virginia “Ginny” (Weiss) Skaggs of De Soto; two children: Todd (Julie) Skaggs and Dina (Marshall) Miller, both of De Soto; two siblings: Ann (the late Joe) Honerkamp of Fredericktown and Rick (Gale) Skaggs, Oxford, Ga.; a sister-in-law: Janet Skaggs of Doe Run; three grandchildren: Morgan Skaggs, Luke (Tristian) Skaggs and Grant Miller; two great-grandchildren: Ryleigh and Reece; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister: LaDon (Sam) Webster; and a brother: Charles Skaggs.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at noon Saturday, Sept. 7, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main, in De Soto, officiated by Bob Siebels. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
