Filer, Gregory

Gregory Collin Filer, 73, of Festus died March 8, 2025, at his home. Mr. Filer served in the U.S. Army as a specialist 5 for the Army Security Agency from 1970 to 1972. He worked for several companies in the transportation field, including serving as vice president of field operations transportation at Triple Crown Services. Since his retirement in April of 2019, he enjoyed working in his yard and around the home that he built. He was known for his cooking and he hosted many family gatherings. He loved old cars and owned many throughout the years. He was a member of the Elks and American Legion. He also admired the wildlife on his property and loved morel mushroom hunting. He will be remembered as "the man with the plan." Born Feb. 2, 1952, in Bloomsdale, he was the son of the late Edith (Papin) and Medford Filer.

He is survived by his significant other: Christy Winters; two brothers: Mark (Sandy) Filer and Steve (Sharon) Filer; a sister: Mary Beth (Patrick) Werner of Festus; two sisters-in-law: Angie Filer and Jackie Moran; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Richard Filer, David Filer and Michael Filer; and a sister: Gwen Walsh.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Basler Funeral Home, 685 Center Drive, in Ste. Genevieve. Visitation will continue at 9 a.m. Monday, March 24, at the funeral home until a funeral procession at 9:45 a.m. to Mr. Filer’s home for one last ride around his lake. A Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 5391 Hwy. Y, in French Village, officiated by the Rev. John Schneider. Burial with full military honors performed by VFW Post 2210 will be in St. Anne Cemetery in French Village. Memorials may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation at t2t.org. Arrangements are under the direction of Basler Funeral Home.
