Cain, Edward

Edward James “Jim” Cain Jr., 82, of Hillsboro died Nov. 21, 2025. Mr. Cain retired after more than 30 years as a derailment emergency responder with the Frisco–BNSF Railroad. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle cross-country with his wife, who was his best friend. He loved fishing and collecting lures, rods and reels. He was an enthusiastic model-railroad hobbyist and had an impressive display in his basement. He enjoyed going to yard sales and spending time with family, especially his wife. He also loved taking golf-cart rides with his great-grandchildren. Born Dec. 29, 1942, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Edward Cain Sr. and Faye (Shelton) Cain.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Diane (Bauer) Cain.

He is survived by four children: Jim (Jennifer) Cain, Jeff (Debbie Shearer) Cain, Jackie (Doug) Nelson and Greg Cain; nine grandchildren: Mitchell, Maddie, Cy, Sarah, Nichole, Megan, Leah, Gregory and Nic; nine great-grandchildren; a brother: Bill Cain; a sister-in-law: Joyce (Rod) Vos; and a brother-in-law.

He also was preceded in death by two siblings: Mike Cain and Linda Carbone.

A funeral service was held Nov. 28 at Chapel Hill Mortuary, Robert Brown Chapel, in Hillsboro. Burial was in Peaceful Meadows Cemetery in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Missouri. Arrangements were under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary, Robert Brown Chapel.
