Dorothy Mae Burgee Johnson, 99, of Festus died Jan. 12, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal City. She worked at PPG Industries in Crystal City, Brown Shoe Factory in Festus and as a hairdresser at several beauty salons in the area. Born June 25, 1924, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Stella (Laburay) and Alvin Franklin.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: James Clifford Burgee and Raymond Johnson.
She is survived by a daughter: Barb (the late Norman) Livengood of Festus; four sons: Jim (Donna) Burgee of Herculaneum, John (Sabra) Johnson of Festus, Dennis Johnson (Ginger) of Festus and Kenneth (Sandy) Johnson of Sappington; 16 grandchildren: Debra (Allister) Adams, Shannon Zimmerly, Joe Akers, Anthony Craig, Adrian Berry, Daniel (Monica) Burgee, Bobbie Burgee, Jessica (Rick) Livengood Jordan, John (Ben) Livengood Brown, Leah (Chris) Hamby, Lauren Johnson, Valerie (David) Graham, Vanessa (Charlie) Serafine, Eric Johnson, Sarah Johnson and Steven Johnson; and numerous great-grandchildren
She also was preceded in death by a son: Robert “Bob” Burgee; four sisters: Renelda (the late Lester) Mattingly, Louise Franklin, Virginia (the late Joseph) Keymann and Edith (the late Cecil) McClain; and a brother: Felix Samuel Franklin.
Visitation is scheduled from 4- 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Vinyard Funeral Home in, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral services are scheduled for 11a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Virgil Kelm. Burial will take place in Hematite Methodist Cemetery of Festus. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
