Dennis James “Denny” Auth, 87, of Hillsboro died May 16, 2026, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Auth served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957 to 1963. He retired from Afton Chemical in 2009. He was Catholic.  A jack of all trades who loved a challenge, he will be remembered for being strong-willed and passionate. Most of all, he loved spending time with and caring for his family. Born Jan. 2, 1939, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Frieda (Knepper) and Clarence Auth.

He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years: Betty (Bradley) Auth; four children: Mark (Holly) Auth, Vicki (Brian) Meinkoth, Patrick (Cherie) Auth and Karen (Jack) Lemmon; seven grandchildren: Melissa (Josh), Justin (Susie), Bradley (Amanda), Kristen (Mike), Rachael (Tyler), Julie (Mike) and Brandon (Alyssa); 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Norbert (Rita) Auth.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, 120 N. Illinois St., in Belleville, Ill. Visitation will resume from 10 a.m. until a Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 703 Third St., in Hillsboro, officiated by Fr. Christopher Holtmann. Military honors will follow. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Mr. Auth chose to be cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of George Renner & Sons Funeral Home.
