Catherine Cecilia Roop, 100, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of De Soto, died April 16, 2023, at the Palmview at Gulf Coastal Village in Cape Coral. Born Sept. 9, 1922, in De Soto, she was the daughter of Frances J. (Warburg) and William Owen Camp. She attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and graduated from De Soto High School and Mound City Business College. She worked for General American Insurance Co. in St. Louis for 11 years and was head of the accounts receivable department. She was the first female plant manager at the Aubuchon Silica Mining Co. near Festus, and retired in 1985 as plant superintendent from the Martin Marietta Corp. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Missouri Mining Council, Jefferson Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, Jefferson County Port Authority, the De Soto Railroad Employees Memorial and was president of the De Soto Chapter of Business and Professional Women’s Club, where she served as president. She was twice named the De Soto Woman of the Year.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Lewis W. Roop.

She is survived by two nieces: Jean (Mike) Phillips of Columbia and Joan Wandell of Fort Myers, Fla.; a nephew: Erick (Ruth) Camp of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter-in-law: Karen Roop of De Soto; four grandchildren: Lori (Brian) McKee of Festus; Lewis (Kelly) Roop, Charles (Stephanie) Roop of De Soto and Jonathan (Samantha) Roop of Hillsboro; four great-nieces: Ericka Camp, Laura Camp, Nikki (Rob) Englert and Brooke Shireman; four great-nephews: Brian Camp, John (Karena) Camp, Don (Birgitt) Camp and Troy Shireman; and several great-grandchildren and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Jack, Bob and Owen William Camp; two sisters: Adelaide and Marion Jane Camp; two stepchildren: Gretchen Ray and Wade Roop; a nephew: Dennis Camp; and a great-niece: Cathy Holt.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 28, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in De Soto, officiated by Father Alexander Anderson. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
