James Wayne Dix Sr., 85, of Herculaneum died June 7, 2023, at his home. Mr. Dix was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired as a purchasing agent for McDonnell Douglass. He was a member and former president of the Joachim Golf Club. Born Aug. 8, 1937, in Herculaneum, he was the son of the late Flossie Evelyn (LaBrot) Dix Byington and Homer Dix.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Jennie Lee (Burnell) Dix; three sons: James W. (Sarah) Dix Jr. of Festus, Richard (Susan) Dix of Perryville and Scott (Denise) Dix of Festus; a sister: Lynn (the late Ted) Byington-Van Horn of Wichita, Kan.; and seven grandchildren: Hayden Dix, Reagan Dix, Grant Dix, Carter Dix, Garrett Dix, Magnolia Dix, and Lucy Dix.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Richard (the late Geneva; Helen survives of Barnhart) Dix; a sister: Anna Lee (the late Merlin) Ray; and his stepfather: Alfred “Skeets” Byington.
A memorial gathering is scheduled from 9 a.m. until a memorial service at noon Thursday, June 15, at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home, 9115 Commercial Blvd., in Pevely, officiated by Pastor Jeff Purvis. Burial will follow in the Herculaneum Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Herculaneum-Pevely. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
