Myrl Emil Hook, 90, of Festus died Nov. 2, 2022, in Festus. Mr. Hook worked as a meat cutter at various groceries in St. Louis, Pevely, and Festus, including Gannon’s and Queen’s Markets. He also worked as a funeral direction for Vinyard Funeral Homes in Festus and Pevely. He was a Korean War era veteran of the U.S. Army and a longtime member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus, Knights of Columbus Council 1230 and American Legion Post 253. Born April 22, 1932, in Imperial, he was the son of the late Ivy A. (Herrell) and William J. Hook.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Patricia (Karl) Hook.
He is survived by two daughters: Lynn Zoellner of Festus and Barbara (Phil) Gagliardi of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; five grandchildren: Jamie (Alan Barry) Zoellner, Lindsey (Ross Mattox) Zoellner, Melyssa (Nate Vice) Zoellner, Matthew (Sara) Nausley and Jacob (Katelyn Jackson) Nausley; and five great-grandchildren: Cale, Brooks and Maren Nausley, and Molly and Jack Barry.
He was preceded in death by a son: Rick (Robin survives of Festus) Hook; and three brothers: Richard J. Hook, Carl W. (the late Doris) Hook and Glenn M. (the late Bernadine) Hook.
Visitation is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main, in Festus. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Our Lady Catholic Church, 1550 St. Mary’s Lane, in Festus, officiated by Father Gregory Klump. Burial is in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to Our Lady Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
