Murl Lohman Keiser, 89, of Imperial died Jan. 25, 2020, at his home. Mr. Keiser was a rural mail carrier in Jefferson County and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was president of the board of directors of Public Water Supply District No. 10 in Imperial, a volunteer firefighter with the Rock Community Fire Protection District for more than 25 years, a volunteer for the Wildlife Rescue Center in Ballwin and was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 283 in Imperial, where he ran the post’s hospital loan closet for many years. Born Feb. 21, 1930, in Murphysboro, Ill., he was the son of the late Alma Theresa (Held) and Murl Eugene Keiser.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Marlene (Jaeger) Keiser; five children: Teresa Lynn Bevard of House Springs, Gail Marie (Claude) Taylor of Grafton, Wis., Murl Mitchell “Mitch” (Kathleen) Keiser of Robertsville, Michael William (Laura) Keiser of Edwardsville, Ill., and Mark Christopher (Johnna) Keiser of Oakville; a sister: Marylyn Sue (Tom) Pittman of Murphysboro; a stepsister-in-law: Mary Briggs of Muncie, Ind., and her son, James Briggs and his family; 12 grandchildren: Ryan (Christine) Bevard of Cedar Hill, Sara Bevard of House Springs, Kevin Taylor of Grafton, Abbey Keiser of Hillsboro, Kristie (Codi) Graham of Fenton, Jocelyn and Weston Keiser of Robertsville, Alexa, Zachary and Makenzie Keiser of Edwardsville, and Trisha (Shaun) Singler and Lindsey (Bradley) Suhling, both of St. Louis County; and four great-grandchildren: Brianna, Nolan, Berkley and Ensley.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother: Mary Lou (Briggs) Keiser; and a stepbrother: James Briggs.
Funeral services were held at Kutis Funeral Home in south St. Louis County. Burial was at the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Backstoppers, the Gary Sinise Foundation First Responders Outreach program or to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
