Maxine M. Johnston, 79, of De Soto died Nov. 2, 2017, in De Soto. Mrs. Johnston was a dietary aide at Hillcrest Care Center in De Soto. Born Oct. 25, 1938, in Tiff, she was the daughter of the late Valerie Martha (Boyer) and Raymond Govero.
She is survived by her husband: Raymond Johnston; two children: Deborah “Debbie” (Tim) Heath of De Soto and Charles (Renae) Haverstick of De Soto; two stepsons: Jeffrey (the late Stephanie) Johnston of Gouldsburg, Pa., and Michael Johnston of De Soto and his daughter, Mikayla; six siblings: Mary Joyce “Peggy” (the late Frank) Young of De Soto, Barbara Jean “Dean” (the late Harlan) Love of De Soto, Curtis “Bud” (Barbara) Govero of Tiff, Clayton “Kay” (Patricia) Govero of Bonne Terre, Richard (Thelma “Ray”) Govero of Tiff and Ronald Govero of Cadet; two sisters-in-law: Phyllis “Jay” Govero of Cedar Hill and Mary Govero; a brother-in-law: Billy Bourbon; two grandchildren: Jarrett Heath and Brandon (Alta) Havertsick; and six great-grandchildren: Autumn Mackenzie Heath, Mariah Kelsie Heath, Dylan Haverstick, Braylee Haverstick, Dana Heath and Ellis Heath.
She was preceded in death by four siblings: Veronica “Bonnie” (Charles) Backof, Phillip Govero, Paul Govero and Mary Ann Bourbon; and a grandson: Travis Heath.
A funeral service was held Nov. 6 at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto, officiated by Deacon Ed Boyer. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements were under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
