Louis F. Basler, 91, of Festus died Nov. 1, 2016, at his home. Mr. Basler was a retired assistant postmaster from the Festus Post Office and a dental lab technician. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a charter member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus and a member of Elks Lodge 1721, VFW Post 3777, Knights of Columbus Council 1230 and American Legion Post 253. Born July 30, 1925, in Festus, he was the son of the late Meta (Ahlemeyer) and Felix Joseph Basler. He was preceded in death by his wife: Delores Jane (Schneider) Basler.
He is survived by two daughters: Pamela (Tom) LaPlant of Festus and Janice (Brad) Shain of Olathe, Kan.; three sons: Brad (Phyllis) Basler of Festus, Kevin (Sandy) Basler of Festus and Chad (Joni) Basler of Olathe, Kan.; two sisters: Bernice (Verlon) Hurst of Festus and Shirley Ann (the late Ed) Singleton of St. Louis County; a brother-in-law: Thomas Tucker of Crystal City; 15 grandchildren: Jonathan Basler, Joshua Basler, Sarah (Andrew) Shehata, Jason LaPlant, Nathan (Devin) LaPlant, Lauren (Matthew) Kisler, Bryan Basler, Matt (Nikki) Basler, Andrew Shain, Kayla Shain, Jake Shain, Dustin Basler, Chelsea (Andrew) Dalbey, Paul Basler and Sobbha Basler; and three great-grandchildren: Kimberly Basler, Juliah Basler and Preston Kisler. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen E. Tucker and Dorothy (the late Russell) Clifton.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
A funeral service was held Nov. 4 at Our Lady Church, officiated by Father Jeffrey Maassen. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to Franklin County Honor Flight for Veterans in Union. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
