Leonard Nelson Wright, 68, of Hillsboro died Oct. 16, 2020, in Jackson. Mr. Wright graduated from the Hillsboro R-3 School District in 1969. He worked on the assembly line at Chrysler for 25 years and was a member of the Fenton UAW. He also was a photographer for the St. Louis Post Dispatch. He was an avid American Civil War historian, and he participated in living history events and reenactments. He enjoyed collecting civil war memorabilia, antiques, reading books, and visiting civil war historical sites, and was a member of General Thomas C. Fletcher Camp 47 Son of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Born March 7, 1952, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late David and Evelyn (Myer) Wright.
He is survived by a nephew: Don L. (Pamela) Wright of Bellingham, Mass.; a niece: Cynthia L. (Frank) Thibodeau of Woonsocket, R.I.; two aunts: Jennie Peery of Hillsboro and Francis Morris of Salem, Va.; four great-nieces and great-nephews: Hannah, Christopher, Joshua, and Daniel; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Donald Wright; and a sister-in-law: Evelyn L. (Thompson) Wright.
Mr. Wright chose to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at the Hillsboro City Park. Memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Heritage and Historical Society, at the First United Methodist Church, 113 Grand Ave., Festus, 63028. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
