Kathleen Joyce Henson, 79, of Crystal City died Sept. 12, 2020, at Crystal Oaks Nursing Center in Festus. Mrs. Henson was the retired director of Adult Basic Education at the Jefferson College Arnold campus for 25 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Festus/Crystal City, where she sang in the choir for many years, and a member of the Twin City Optimists Club, Festus/Crystal City Rotary Club and PEO Chapter EH. She was a skilled seamstress and cook who loved sewing and cooking for her family, looking after her grandchildren and going to the ocean and traveling with her friends. She was born June 6, 1941, in Edinburgh, Texas, the daughter of the late Myrtle Louise (Miller) Dukes and Robert Doyle Cline. She was preceded in death by her husband: Arthur Gale Henson.
She is survived by two sons: Douglas J. (Michelle) Henson of Festus and Michael G. (the late Julie) Henson of Crystal City; a daughter: Shelly Ann (Dennis Fasnut) Henson of Festus; two stepdaughters: Gayla Faye (Jim) Anthony of Jackson and Stephanie Susan Ghanti of Naples, Fla.; a stepson: Bradley Harold Henson of Harrison, Mich.; two sisters: Glenda Faye (Mike) Hunt of Midland Odessa, Texas, and Debra Jeanne (the late David) Babcock of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren: Joy Lynn (Casey) Pearcy, Casey Jay (Grace) Fasnut, Jessie Ann Fasnut, Shannon (Jay) Gana Wu, Cassy Gana Henson and Taylor Michel (Tyler) Clendaniel; and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather: Jones Ray “JR” Dukes; a brother: Robert Doyle (the late Barbara) Cline Jr.; and a sister: Patricia Ann (the late Jerry) Keese.
A graveside funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City, officiated by Pastor Tish Green. The family requests guests observe coronavirus protocols, including mask use and social distancing. Memorials may be made to the Crystal Oaks Foundation, Twin City Optimist Club, First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
