Julia Renee Underwood, 66, of Festus died June 30, 2022, at her home. Ms. Underwood was a nurse for more than 35 years, including more than 20 years at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. She was a Christian and a compassionate and giving person who supported many charities, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She was a volunteer with the New Evangelistic Center and with the Meals on Wheels programs in De Soto and Festus. She enjoyed spending time with family. Born Jan. 24, 1956, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Beatrice (Schott) Cummiskey.
She is survived by two sons: Aaron Underwood of St. Louis and Jarrod (Amy) Underwood of Arnold; a daughter: Stephanie (Fred) Patrick of Crystal City; two brothers: Thomas (Patricia) Cummiskey of Festus and Patrick (Alicia) Cummiskey of Festus; and five sisters: Susan (Richard) Davis of Sullivan, Debbie (Don) Schaberg of Houston, Texas, Maureen (Dan) Hewitt of Festus, Joan (Terraine) Casey of St. Louis and Mary Ackman of Festus.
She was preceded in death by a brother: James P Cummiskey; and four sisters: Barbara Foster, Stephanie Stewart, Denise Dumas and Elizabeth Cummiskey.
A memorial gathering is scheduled from 4 p.m. until a memorial service at 6 p.m. Monday, July 11, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Ave., in Festus. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 680 Craig Road, Suite 300, St. Louis, 63141. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
