James Woodrow ‘Jim’ Bergner, 76, Hillsboro

James Woodrow “Jim” Bergner, 76, of Hillsboro died Oct. 3, 2022, in St. Louis. Mr. Bergner worked as a truck driver for H.W. Herrell Distributing. He was a member of Festus-Crystal City Elks Lodge 1721. He enjoyed fishing, yard work, woodworking, having a frosty one with the guys and spending time with friends and family. Born Nov. 4, 1945, in Potosi, he was the son of the late James Winick Sr. and Frances Bergner.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years: Phyllis Bergner of Hillsboro; three sons: Jerry Bergner of Potosi, Sam (Kathleen) Bergner of Farmington and Steven (Tanya) Bergner of Hillsboro; two daughters: Cynthia (John) Powell-Hurley of Festus and Patricia (Scott) Powell-Mollet of Weldon Springs; two brothers: Johnny (Carmen) Litton of Blackwell and George Litton of Potosi; a sister: Helen (Harry) Woods of Potosi; 13 grandchildren: Jamie, Samantha, JW, Amy, Sami Jo, AJ, Austin, Mathew, Ethan, Taylor, Josh, Miranda and Ayden; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death a brother: Leroy Bergner; and a sister: Judy Litton.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Chad Hodges. Burial will follow in the Peaceful Ridge Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
