Jack Christophel, 87, of Barnhart died Feb. 5, 2018, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Christophel was a longtime bus driver for Bi-State and Bethesda Transportation, retiring at age 82. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the American Legion and a parishioner of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Born June 29, 1930, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Christopher and Blanche (Elsey) Christophel. He was preceded in death by his wife: Cecelia (Coffey) Christophel
He is survived by a daughter: Cathy (Mike) Hermann of Ste. Genevieve; two sons: Michael (Valerie Teague) Christophel of Barnhart and Christopher (Sheri) Christophel of Eureka; a sister-in-law: Bea Christophel of Ocala, Fla.; 11 grandchildren: Shanna (Justin) Starnes, Kristena (Peter) Rudloff, Crystal (Ryan) Gegg, Jacquelyn (Pete) Gorsuch, Audra Hermann, Michael Hermann, Christopher, Jordan, and Cecelia Christophel, Sophia Autry and Jacob Giancola; and five great-grandchildren: Payton, Tristin, Grayson, Raymond and Austin.
He was preceded in death by three siblings: Christopher Christophel, Ressell (Pat) Christophel and June (Arval) Moellinger.
A funeral service was held Feb. 9 at the Church of Ste. Genevieve in Ste. Genevieve, officiated by the Rev. Gregory Klump. Burial was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2210. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home, 2400 Veterans Memorial Dr., Cape Girardeau, 63701. Arrangements were under the direction of Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve.
