Homer “Larry” Garrett, 65, Herculaneum

Homer “Larry” Garrett, 65, of Herculaneum died July 2, 2021, at Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur. Mr. Garrett attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Okla., and completed courses in industrial inspection and technologies in 1979. He worked at the Air Force base in Utah and at the Morton Thiokol space shuttle company. After returning to Missouri, he worked at St. Louis Testing Laboratories Inc. as a nondestructive technician from 1990-2016. He enjoyed guitars, nature programs and his motorcycle, and he loved traveling, boating and fishing with his family. He earned his skydiving certificate at Skydive St. Louis School in Bowling Green. He also earned a pilot’s license. Born May 27, 1956, in Poplar Bluff, he was the son of the late Shirley (McKinley) and Homer L. Garrett Sr.

He is survived by his wife: Barbara J. (Schweiss) Garrett; a daughter: Sarah Jewell Musick-Garrett of De Soto; a stepson: Mark (Athena) Mcklin of Ste. Genevieve; a brother: Rodney (Beverly) Garrett of Ohio; a sister: Donna (Pat) Krockenberger of Florida; a grandson: Nathaniel Rayburn; four step-grandchildren: Nathan, Julia, Gwendolyn and Eleanor Mcklin; an uncle and aunt: Leon and Darlene McKinley of St. Louis; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a stepson: Nicholas Mcklin.

A memorial gathering will be from noon until the memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday (July 17) at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Brother George Compton. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or in the form of Masses at the Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Crystal City. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
