George E. Townsend, 59, of De Soto died Dec. 23, 2014. Mr. Townsend was a maintenance technician for an apartment complex. He enjoyed watching the San Francisco 49ers football team and listening to blues music. Born March 3, 1955, in De Soto, he was the son of the late Anna Townsend and Donald Blanks.
He is survived by a daughter: Nicole Bingham of De Soto; five brothers: Jeff (Kim) Townsend of Arnold, Sterling (Marsha) Townsend of House Springs, Lowell (Carla) Townsend of Crystal City, Randal Steward of Michigan and Monte Steward of Michigan; two sisters: Sandra (Mick) Boyer of De Soto and Fay Steward of Michigan; six nieces and nephews: Jeff Kelly, Tia Townsend, Tyrone Townsend, Tevin Townsend, Aaron Pepper and Yolanda Fischer; 10 great-nieces and nephews: Dominique Bourn, Neoles Bourn, Averie Bourn, Lillian Townsend, Carson Pepper, Abigail LeGrand, Tobias Fischer, Tylania Fischer, Malik Kelly and Jayden Kelly; friends: Donnie Patton of De Soto and Robin Patton of De Soto; an aunt: Carol Shores of Festus; and two uncles: Clyde Townsend of Kansas City, Kan., and Donald Townsend of Farmington.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Ramona Pruitt.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Mahn De Soto Chapel, 900 N. Main St., followed immediately by funeral services officiated by Bishop Ron Luellen. Burial will be in the De Soto City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the De Soto Food Pantry. Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
