Gary Wayne Filkins, 66, of De Soto died Jan. 17, 2014, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Filkins was a cable splicer for AT&T. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Amvets Post 48. Born Dec. 17, 1947, in De Soto, he was the son of Marion (Deering) Filkins of De Soto and the late Lloyd W. Filkins Sr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two children: Chris Filkins of Imperial and Paul (Jennifer) Filkins of Festus; a brother: Lloyd (Brenda) Filkins Jr. of Hillsboro; and three grandchildren: Paul Henry Filkins, David Wayne Filkins and Nathan Christopher Filkins. He was preceded in death by one brother: Ronald Filkins.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto. Graveside services will be held at a later date. Burial is in Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
