Elmer “Butch” Britton Lowery, 73, of Arnold died Feb. 7, 2021, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mr. Lowery was a Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed going to yard sales, riding his Harley-Davidson, collecting Hot Wheels, watching Blues hockey and spending time with his family. He was born May 9, 1947, in Wardell, the son of the late Irene (Wilson) and Elmer Britton Lowry Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Kathleen Ann (Benthall) Lowery, whom he married on July 27, 1967, in Tennessee; four children: Elmer Britton (Melisa) Lowery III of Seattle, Wash., William Robert (Sheri) Lowery of Kennewick, Wash., Kathy Lynn (Randy) Cape of Hillsboro and Theresa Lynn (Jeffrey) Robson of Barnhart; three brothers: Buddy Lowry of Herculaneum, Billy (Shirley) Lowry of St. Louis and Dennis (Barb) Lowry of Caruthersville; two sisters: Peggy (Michael) Ward of Memphis, Tenn., and Cheryl Lowry of Camden, Tenn.; a sister-in-law: Sharon Lowry of Bismarck; 11 grandchildren: Ben, Kelsey, Anna, Alyssa, Jacob, Lucas, Ciara, Britton IV, Sabastian, Charlotte and Eleanor; two great-grandchildren: Valeree and Knox; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Belinda Sue Lowery; two brothers: Donald Lowry and Marty Lowry; and a sister: Sunny (Puckett) Darger.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins, in Festus. Visitation is from 8 a.m. until a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at the funeral home, officiated by Scott Lowry. Masks are requested by the family. Burial is in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to Jefferson County Foster Children’s Fund, P.O. Box 445, Hillsboro, 63050. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
