Edward Grant “Bud” Groat Sr., 83, Crystal City
Edward Grant “Bud” Groat Sr., 83, of Crystal City died Nov. 18, 2021, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Groat is a U.S. Army veteran, and he retired after 45 years as a bricklayer with Bricklayers’ Union Local 1. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City for 46 years. He also was a member of American Legion 253 and a former Cub Scout master. Born Feb. 18, 1938, in De Soto, he was the son of the late Albert and Edith (Wilson) Groat.
He is survived by a son: Edward G. Grant Jr. of Crystal City; a daughter: Suzanne (Daan) Gaylord-Janssen of Dusseldorf, Germany; a brother: Dan (Arlene) Groat of Herculaneum; a sister: June (the late Dave) Cooper of Claremore, Okla.; two granddaughters: Lauren Gaylord and Heather (Ashley) Fischer; two grandsons: Levi and Roy Janssen; three great-granddaughters: Sakura, Oliver and Violet Fischer; two nieces: Taryn (Kevin) Wallace and Tana (Tom) Murphy; and eight nephews: Todd (Nettie) Groat, Troy (Laura) Groat, Tren (Melissa) Groat, Travis (Carrieanne) Groat, Timothy (Betsy) Groat and David, Brad and Hamp Cooper.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Gene (Tryna of Florida) Groat.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 21) at Grace Presbyterian Church, 105 Bailey Road, in Crystal City, officiated by the Rev. Vickie Michaels. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
