Edna Marlene “Mar” Adams, 82, of Kansas City died Nov. 1, 2018. Mrs. Adams spent her early years in Lake County, Tenn., and worked at Bemis Bag in St. Louis and at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. She and her husband lived in San Francisco, New Jersey, Chicago and finally Kansas City, and she became a very knowledgeable student of the human condition. She was a skilled baker, cook and artist who gifted much of her artwork to friends and loved ones, and wrote a book called “Willie of the Willow.” She enjoyed gardening, creative endeavors, animals and spending time with friends and family, and is remembered for her humor. Born Aug. 11, 1936, in Hickman, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Emma Hazel (Mayo) and William “Milton” Holcomb.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years: Joseph Adams, whom she married in 1971; a brother: Bill Holcomb of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister: NebleAnn McCowan of Richmond, Calif.; and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five children: Nina Horton, Scott Horton, Bobby Horton, Betsy Irvine and Laura Rogers.
A memorial gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth St., in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
