Nuckols, David

Dr. David C. Nuckols, 73, of St. Charles, formerly of Hillsboro, died Sept. 22, 2021, at Mercy Heart Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Nuckols served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War before transferring to the U.S. Air Force where he studied to be an optometrist. After retiring from the military, he moved to Hillsboro and practiced optometry in De Soto. He was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in De Soto. Born April 27, 1948, in Sullivan, Ind., he was the son of the late Rev. Howard Winfred and Patricia (Crawford) Nuckols. He was preceded in death by his wife: Susan Kathleen (Wilson) Nuckols.

He is survived by four children: Taylor (Heather) Cunningham of New Braunfels, Texas, John (Bailey) Nuckols of O’Fallon, Christian Nuckols of St. Louis and Lauren (Michael) Jolley of Knoxville, Tenn.; four siblings: Byron “Tom” (Patsy) Nuckols of Reno, Nev., John (Gerri) Nuckols of Austin, Texas, Kent (Mary) Nuckols of San Francisco, Calif., and Sandra Nuckols of Paducah, Ky.; and five grandchildren: Celine, Ella, Jonah, Avery and Eli.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Howard W. Nuckols Jr.; and a sister: Sondra Nuckols.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until a funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 1004 Rock Road, in De Soto, officiated by Pastor David Duncan. Burial is in the De Soto City Cemetery. Memorials may be made UNICEF, 125 Maiden Lane, New York City, NY 10038. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
