Donna Mae Rasmussen, 90, of Hillsboro died Jan. 24, 2021, in Edwardsville, Ill. Ms. Rasmussen was a teacher for the Hillsboro R-3 and Dunklin R-5 school districts. She was a graduate of Drury University and earned master’s degree in education at Maryville University in St. Louis. She was a member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church in De Soto. Born Jan. 23, 1931, in Whittier, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Luella (Binns) Hampton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John William “Bill” Rasmussen.
She is survived by three children: Karen (Robert) Copeland of Plano Texas, Donna Kay (Marsha Poehling) Rasmussen of Edwardsville, Ill., and Kathy (Michael) Calcara of Shawnee, Kan.; a brother: Jerry Hampton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Andrew (Jacob Westbrook) Copeland, Kate (Brad) Pierce, Heather (Martin) Morgan, Will (Becca) Rasmussen, Alan (Stephanie) Rasmussen, Emily Calcara and Kat Calcara; and a great-grandchild: Nora Mae Pierce.
She also was preceded in death by a son: Jon Rasmussen; and three siblings: Maurine Lassen, Eugene Hampton and Kay Kinkead.
A memorial service will be held later. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made the De Soto Lions Club, the De Soto Public Library, the Mount Olive United Methodist Church in De Soto, Smile Train or the Nature Conservancy. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
